Our current hosting provider has us on a shared server which has an IP address blacklisted by several of the anti-spam folks. Yuck. Therefore none of the email sent by this server is getting through to most people. That's not good. It's also gone offline more than I would prefer. But I guess we've gotten enough bang for our buck at $19.95 per month -- but sense those dollars should be able to give us a bit more.

So, I'm on the lookout for a great hosting provider who can provide a solution which supports at least the following in addition to the regular web site hosting...

DASBlog 1.9

Community Server (Personal or Standard Edition)

SQL Server (for Community Server and other stuff)

The sites which would be hosted include...

http://www.retrosight.com, http://blog.retrosight.com, http://www.mediacentersandbox.com, http://blog.mediacentersandbox.com, http://discuss.mediacentersandbox.com and http://play.mediacentersandbox.com.

Please leave your recommendations in the comments, or drop me a line at charlieo@microsoft.com if you are a hosting provider and have a great solution.

I've used DiscountASP.NET forever. They're all ASP.NET and support just about anything you'd ever want -- and it's dirt cheap.

http://aspnix.com/ is really good, and very cheap for what you get.

I think www.webhost4life.com is a good solution for you. They've got a nice support and interesting hosting plans (including a good quality/price relation)

Charlie you are going to laugh but you should consider a virtual server configuration, they can be had real cheap now,(lots of places) and you can make it just like you want.

I have a Win2003 Vserver with Godaddy.com at $35.00 month, that's 10GB Disk & 500GB bandwidth, unlimited sites, SQL, MySQL, PHP, dasBlog etc. etc. I have gone through several ISPs, but becoming virtually your own ISP works best when you run a lot of site like we do!

I have dasblog.info, dasblog.us, and 1/2 dozen other cats and dogs sites running, no crashs, dedicated IPs, not blacklisted, and since their your IP's, they should stay clean.

Cheers

I would have thought you'd just be able to use Microsoft Servers for this?..

I personally use both brinkster + webhost4life... I'd avoid Brinkster like the plague as I have had a ton of unresolved problems (most of them related to their email servers either crashing or swallowing emails).

Webhost4life is really good however (although sometimes a little slow when it uses SQL Server) - has brilliant reporting features and admin features (like user configurable mime type and subdomain support) - and it has an online wizard for quickly installing Community Server (and a few other packages like DNN etc)..

Using Microsoft servers comes at an beaurocratic tradeoff, but I'm looking into doing this.

I'm also using www.aspnix.com and have been happy with them.

My sites are all hosted at 1and1.com for a reasonable price. Most are Windows-hosted, but I use a Linux host for my blog www.FairUseLaw.com and the WordPress program (easy to install and configure). So far I'm pleased - occasionally their email servers are offline for a few hours every 6 months or so, but I've never lost any mail.

For what its worth, it seems the Linux server is faster than the Windows servers...
