Windows Media Center RSS 2.0

I was walking by Michael Creasy's office late last week and noticed he was handling email on a Windows Vista machine. He said it was running pretty reliably, and could go about three days without needing a reboot. That's fairly good considering he wasn't running a build which had been vetted for public consumption like a Community Technology Preview -- just one of the latest builds, which can sometimes be a crapshoot.

So, I'm going to install it right now on my lifeblood Toshiba M200 Tablet PC -- the one I depend on daily. I run a ton of beta software on other machines at work, but keep this one 'sacred' running only released (non-beta) software so I can be assured of not being blocked from getting something done.

I'll admit, I'm a bit apprehensive about the impact this will have on my productivity.

What tipped the scales...?

I was on an email thread with a Microsoft VP the other day and his signature read 'Sent from Windows Vista CTP'. Seriously, if my bosses' bosses' bosses' bosses' boss can tough it out, so can (should) I.

When you get installed can you try out the glass drivers. I tried the latest CTP build and once I tried the nVidia drivers in the build the machines had some issues. I am curious if they have improved in current builds.

Aero Glass won't work on the Tablet PC -- not enough graphics horsepower. That said, I have Aero Glass running on two PCs at work -- one ATI, one nVidia -- both seem to work about the same.

So are you all Vista all the time now? Like even the Media Center at home? What's that like?

I have a Tablet as my primary machine as well. It's hard enough running the O12 Beta 1 on it. I can't imagine Vista + O12 on it.

That said, I'm really excited to have literally the same OS on all my "specialty" machines. I can then keep one set of updates, one set of media etc.

I doubt my Fujitsu T4020D or my Media Center with Radeon X600 has enough horsies to take advantage of any of the cool stuff WPF can do...

I only wish Microsoft would let people like myself that loves trying out every aspect of the operating system, and searching for bugs, and testing weird configurations download the operating system. Rather than pay to test Microsoft operating system, I would like to help them find potential problems and test out the operating system now in hope to have problems fixed before it is released. You guys are lucky to be able to test out windows vista. Do your best to let them know any problems you find. I wish I could.
