It’s day one here in my new role and I’ve begun to explore (in depth) the wonderful world of MSDN online. Prior to joining the team my involvement with MSDN online was mostly an on-demand activity -- mostly searches for information which led me to a particular source – and it has always been goodness. As I start to get to know the team here I’m finding all kinds of areas ripe for improvement. As with Windows Media Center, I’d like to start connecting with folks who use MSDN on a regular basis.

What do you love?

What do you hate?

What do you want changed?

And who are you? :-)

Leave a comment introducing yourself along with the feedback.

Wow, I need to get used to this... your name is sooooo associated with MCE that it's weird to think of you as now part of MSDN. BTW, who is taking over your MCE work?

Hi Danny -- yeah, I know, it's going to be weird for me for a while as well. The great thing about Microsoft is things are constantly in motion. (At least I see it as great.) With regards to my 'replacement' in Windows Media Center: The short answer is I don't know. The slightly longer answer is we are wrapping up Windows 7 now (it's effectively been done for months now) and that remains the sole focus for the team. What happens next is unknown at this time -- and I'll watch it just like you -- from the outside. :-)

MSDN online really does suck:

1) Stupid URLs that break all the time. How hard is it to keep URLs working? Take CreateWindowEx for example, its currently http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms632680.aspx , a year from now, who knows. It should be something like: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/winapi/CreateWindowEx

2) It sucks in firefox. The treeview works much better in IE. And a bigger problem, the middle click scroll does not work at all (Middle click the main content and try to scroll, it does not work, it somehow tries to scroll the header of the page)

Hi Charlie,

The issues that I find with msdn are to do with the system not working well with firefox. For example, go to the following URL;

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.windows.design.model.modelitem.aspx

if you open that link in IE, you will see a side menu. If you open in firefox, you will not see the side menu.

Searching isn't the most intuitive thing ever. I usually end up trying to use google to get to MSDN.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb759757(VS.85).aspx things in CODE tags are way to small and hard to read in firefox 3
