Oh, how I wish I spoke other languages outside of English (and C#). I just know some of the comments over at the german MacTechNews are good.  Even the flames look interesting, at least in German.

My translation:

Charlie Owen, Chief-Developer of Microsoft Windows Media Center, has commented on his blog about Apple's introduction of Front Row. As could not be expected otherwise, he denies that any innovation happened on Apple's part and accuses Apple of having copied from Microsoft Windows Media Center. For one, the design of the software is no surprise, given the success of the iPod, and for another Apple is now nervous because there is no discernible halo-effect from the iPod on Mac sales, says Owen. Owen also pulls out a "price card", comparing the cost of purchasing a Mac versus purchasing a Windows PC. Finally, Steve's comparison of the number of remote control buttons between Front Row (6) and Media Center (40) is purely a marketing ploy in Owen's view, since the software packages are not comparable.

well you know those people at mactechnews are just discussing the features between mc and fr. themes like "who copied who" and "less is more" are also treated but all in all i have to say that it is a really good and informative discussion eventhough it is on a mac site. no bad words like "piss off" or "you suck".

first, the short article takls about ur "Some Thoughts About Apple Front Row".
about, that you would say, that apple would have copied from you, e.g. microsoft.
the postings are most of the kind "ms is bäh, and copied all from apple". some are nice to read. about that the apple proggy is not useable, some about some bugs in media center and some about that you can't compare a 40-button rich feature interface with a smooth 6 button interface. if you want some postings to be translated, just send them to me, i translate it.

babelfish, baby! I sometimes have to read German tech posts to get the dirt on how to fix something. Them Germans are on the bleedin' edge. ...or should I say, "Deutsche sind auf dem Blutenrand"

The funny thing is the comments mostly relate to the German summary of your blog post, not to your original post. Someone even points that out and gives you credit for being relatively balanced in your assessment.

Personally, I think the comparison of the two remotes is really like comparing apples to oranges. Front Row has no TV, so it doesn't need the 10 number keys. There go 10 keys (12 actually, counting # and *). Perhaps one could design a TV interface that works well by reusing the six navigation buttons. Front Row has no direct access buttons, there go nine more keys. Front Row has no volume up/down and page up/down buttons, there go another four. So now we're down to 12 or so versus six.

When I think about it, the six buttons I use most are the green button, navigation and OK (sometimes back). That's six buttons as well (okay, maybe seven).

Anyway, just my two cents of semi-pointless commentary.
