If you'd like to meet up and chat about Windows Media Center let me know at charlieo@microsoft.com. I'm meeting with our Windows Media Center MVPs one day next week as part of the regular sessions but don't want to miss anyone who wants to talk about Windows Media Center or our platform. I'm going to clear my calendar as much as possible next week to make myself available -- drop me a line. :-)

I've found several web pages and articles about using WIndows 2008 as a destkop OS. I thought that was odd because it seems to be based very much on Vista. I think Vista crawls compared to XP in most things but my curiousity got the best of me and I installded Windows 2008 on my home PC. I was amazed at how much faster it is at EVERYTHING than Vista SP1 is. It is really on par with XP for performance in my opinion. I have no idea why it is so much faster but it really does well - which is high praise from someone who thinks of Vista as Windows ME II.

I've go Live Mail and sidebars installed although they aren't supposed to work on WIndows Server 2008. All my games run fine and I have a lot of them including COD4, Q4, D3, H1 and 2, MOHA, FEAR etc. All my hardware works - scanner, inkjet, laserjet, BT keyboard and mouse etc. The aero interface runs fine with no impact on performance. Someone said they got DreamScene working but I haven't figured out how to do that yet.

So that only leaves two features which haven't been ported over from Vista - one of them is MEDIA CENTER. It would be great if someone figures a way to port it over for Server 2008. Yes, I realize Server 2008 wasn't meant to be a desktop OS but it works GREAT as one. Vista WAS meant to be one and I think it is a joke. Windows ME was bad but MS let it have a swift mercifult death.

If you get a chance to discuss this at your summit I would be very interested.
