I'll admit it somewhat irks me we shipped games inside of the Program Library which shell out to their own executables and don't run at all on Media Center Extenders (luckily they don't show up on those devices taunting the user with hollow promises). I reinstall multiple times per week on multiple machines and finally got tired of them so took a moment to 'solve' the problem. If you'd like to get rid of them yourself follow these simple directions...

1) Launch Notepad.

2) Copy + Paste the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

3) Save as 'RemoveGamesFromMediaCenterLibrary.reg'. (Make sure you have a .reg extension, otherwise it's a plain text file).

4) Double-click the newly created reg file.

5) Click the Yes button in the Registry Editor warning dialog box.

6) Click the OK button in the Registry Editor success dialog.

As is the norm, I make no guarantees -- editing the registry can be dangerous business.

the bigger question is, why is it in online services?

An unfortunate name for the feature given the purpose of this area when we shipped Windows Vista.

My only complaint is it is in online services too. Why not have a dedicated "Games" area or at least a better title?

My reason for posting is to say my family really likes the ability to launch games directly from Media Center (although we don't really play the shipped games very often).

We have a number of video games installed such as various car racing games, children's games, etc. It is very nice to be able to simply plug in the XBox 360 game controller and use the remote to click on the desired game to start it. When we're done, we exit the game and we're back at Media Center - very slick! Note we don't have an XBox and use Media Center PCs throughout our home (all networked, including Recorded TV).

BTW, I am very pleased to see so much involvment with the community from MS. I don't know why but it makes me feel better about how much effort I've invested in our 6 Media Center PCs.
