Windows Media Center RSS 2.0

Reading Thomas Hawk tonight and notice his post referring to The Green Button who currently has a thread with the title Media Center Convention!!!

We've had geek dinners mostly about Media Center (most recently Sean hosted one with Thomas in San Francisco and I've been to a couple here in the Seattle area, most recently with Michael Creasy).

Me and my colleagues here on the Windows XP Media Center Edition Services Partner Team will be doing a few things at the 2005 Microsoft Professional Developers Conference (PDC) this coming Spetember 2005.  Why don't we do the mother of all Media Center Geek dinners there?  Heck, why don't we do a Media Center Geek Day either before, during or after PDC?

Thoughts?  Interest?  Should we (Microsoft + Others) begin to put this together...?

Post your comments and let's see if there is enough ground roots interest to make it happen.

Great Idea, shame I won't be able to make it over.
It would be good content for my MCE Podcast, maybe some one could help me out with it?

Hi Charlie,

We will be at the PDC and I would love to attend another MCE Geek dinner. In addition I would like to throw my vote in for a MS sanctioned or not, MCE exposition or trade show some time in the next year or so. Count us in for a sponsorship and some booth space.

Also I am trying to hire a MCE centric software developer. Sean Alaxender geave a small post on his blog, could I ask you to do something similar?

Hey charlie -

Since we met and I saw the Windows Media Center demo at CES, I've become something of a fan. Reading your blog, Thomas Hawk, and a number of others.

And - I find that I now 'visit' the MCE at my neighborhood circuit city once or twice a week. Why? Because it's lonely. It's in the computer section (not near any TV that would make it happy) - and it's being sold be folks who don't have a clue what it is.

I thought maybe this was just Circuit City - so I went to Best Buy and tried the same thing. No demo, no love, just software sitting on a box in the computer section. No demo.

Is this just a retail channel problem? BTW there's no HP 19" rack mount form factor to be seen anywhere. And this is NYC - with more early adopters per square inch than anywhere on earth... Other than the valley.

When will Media Center be sitting next to Tivo? Is that in the future?

We're excited to see all the interest in a MCE conference of some type. We have actually been talking internally about this since the end of last year. TGB has some plans in the works that we'll be sharing soon. In the meantime, if this sort of thing interests you (particularly if you are a MCE-centric business) please let me know!

Hey, this sounds great. I would love to see more Media Center Edtions events all around!

While I would prefer something in the New York City area, I wouldn't mind flying over for the mother of all geek dinners. I'm not a professional developer so the conference is not something I will be attending. I'll just make it a long weekend and visit the sights in the area.

unfortunately, i have no sponsor for my tickets to PDC this year :-(((
since i work for my own little one-man-company, no one pays my flight tickets and tickets anymore...
oh, i really would love to come to see all the faces behind these blogs and emails :-)
